About Mr. Full-Time Dad

Mr Full-Time DadMy name is Ben Hanson. In July of 2015, I became a father for the first time when my wife, Emily, gave birth to the cutest, chubbiest baby boy you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting.

When we brought Macklin home from the hospital, the plan was for Emily to take the first three months off from work to be with him, after which he’d spend his days in daycare—Emily and I both had full-time jobs we thought we couldn’t give up. But after a few months of less than stellar experiences at two separate daycares, we decided to take a chance.

I would quit my job to take care of Macklin full-time, and Emily would become our sugar mama. It wasn’t our first choice, but any parent can tell you how hard it is to find infant daycare (especially in Fargo, ND). We also finally admitted to ourselves that the thought of allowing perfect strangers to essentially raise our child nine out of his twelve waking hours was… well, strange.

So here I am, Mr. Full-Time Dad. And so far, we’re all thriving. Mack’s hitting all his developmental milestones, my blood pressure is at an all-time low and Emily got a promotion at work. Aside from having no money, everything’s coming up Milhouse with this stay-at-home-dad business.

That said, I quickly realized I couldn’t give up on writing. I did that with piano and now I can barely pound out Mary Had a Little Lamb to briefly amuse Mack—thank God he’s a baby with no frame of reference. Knowing the “if you don’t use it, you lose it” cliché to be true, I setup this site to chronicle my #dadventures… and maybe even land a paying gig here and there.
